Always a pleasure to be sharing ideas and helping new coaches on their tennis journey via the Trainee Course 🎾 😎
🎾 Development Course - Day 16 🎾
That’s a wrap…well, almost. Day 16 is the last contact day for these coaches before the green stage assessment in a few weeks time.
While we approach the end of the course, this is just the beginning of the journey for these coaches and we look forward to supporting them further in the future.
🎾 Development Course - Day 14 🎾
Big topics for the day were around transitioning from orange to green, and becoming a more effective coach by using a constraint-led approach.
Instead of isolated practice that often removes perceptual information and decision-making from the player (which they will need in a match!), coaches can instead use representative environments to keep (and emphasise) perceptual information and decision-making for the players…happy days 😊 🎾
Nice to see progress with coaches on day 13 (assessment day!) of the development course. One of the biggest differences from the red stage to the orange stage assessments was their use of more representative learning environments for the players. This has been a key area of focus over the last five weeks.
The benefit of this is:
✅ A lesson that looks and feels more like a match
✅ Players have increased autonomy to explore and problem solve
✅ Increased likelihood of transfer to the match court
